Los Angeles Chargers vs Pittsburgh Steelers

Los Angeles Chargers vs Pittsburgh Steelers : A huge Sunday night matchup will take place in Pittsburgh as the Steelers (7-3-1) look to bounce back from their first loss in seven games against the Los Angeles Chargers (8-3) as small home favorites at sportsbooks.

Los Angeles Chargers vs Pittsburgh Steelers Live

The Steelers are still in contention for one of the top two seeds in the AFC despite losing 24-17 to the Denver Broncos on the road last week, while the Chargers have won seven of their last eight.

NFL point spread: The Steelers opened as 3.5-point favorites; the total was 52.5 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. (Line updates and matchup report)

NFL betting pick, via OddsShark computer: 25.4-21.0 Steelers (NFL picks on every game)

Los Angeles has an outside chance of winning the AFC West, although a 23-22 home loss to Denver two weeks ago may prove costly in the team’s pursuit of the division-leading Kansas City Chiefs.

Regardless, the Chargers are one of the NFL’s hottest teams right now and performing well on both sides of the ball. Last week in a 45-10 rout of the Arizona Cardinals, quarterback Philip Rivers set a league record by completing his first 25 passes and finished 28-of-29 for 259 yards with three touchdowns.

Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was selected in the same draft behind Rivers and New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, and he has arguably had the best career of the three. Roethlisberger’s two Super Bowl rings equal Manning, and he also has the same number of touchdowns while totaling more passing yards than Rivers.

While he fell short last week against the Broncos, Roethlisberger seems to have the best shot of the three to win a Super Bowl this year, but this game is very crucial.

Both of these teams are likely headed to the playoffs, barring a late-season collapse, and they could even end up meeting again in the Wild Card Round in January. The Steelers have a much more difficult schedule down the stretch, though, making this a must-win situation at home.

Pittsburgh is 12-2 straight up in the past 14 home meetings with Los Angeles, according to the OddsShark NFL Database, and has covered the spread in five of the last seven games played between the teams at Heinz Field. The Steelers will extend each of those trends with another home win and cover in this spot.

The total has gone over in three of the Chargers’ last four games vs. the Steelers.

The Chargers are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games on the road vs. the Steelers.

The total has gone over in six of the Steelers’ last seven games at home.

San Francisco 49ers vs Seattle Seahawks

San Francisco 49ers vs Seattle Seahawks : The Seattle Seahawks are in the hunt for a wild card spot and could easily rise to the sixth seed with a win and some luck this week.

San Francisco 49ers vs Seattle Seahawks Live

The Seattle Seahawks got a crucial win last week that put them one step closer to a wild card spot. While they’re still technically in the hunt and nothing is secure, Seattle is leading the hunt.

With a win and Minnesota Vikings or Washingtons Redskins loss, the Seahawks will officially be in a playoff position. But for now, they’re playing against the 2-9 San Francisco 49ers in Week 13. Seattle has come way too far to possibly lose to the 49ers, who have been starting their third quarterback this season, Nick Mullens.

Luckily for the Seahawks, they get to play the 49ers twice before the season ends. Those should be two easy wins for Seattle. With any luck, the second halves of the games won’t even be necessary to watch because the Seahawks will be winning by so much. That might be asking for too much though.

Either way, hopefully these potential storylines will make Sunday’s game will be a little exciting.

Richard Sherman will intercept Russell Wilson

I like revenge stories. It’s usually hard for a cornerback to get revenge on his former team, it’s much easier for offensive players or pass rushers, but Sherman is Sherman. He’ll find a way to make an impact in this game, and I can’t wait to see what he’ll do.

Sherman has already made some comments about his relationship, or apparent lack thereof, with Wilson ahead of the game. ESPN’s Nick Wagoner recently wrote an article in which he quoted Sherman saying, “I don’t really have a relationship with Russell”. Sherman has never been one to hold back when discussing his feeling or answering questions by the media.

When a reporter mentioned what Wilson was capable of, Sherman was quick to remind everyone that Wilson has had his fair share of bad games,

“I’ve also seen him throw five picks in the game, so you see what he’s capable of on both sides of it”.

He didn’t mention the interception that cost the Seahawks a potential second Super Bowl ring, but that’s the first thing that comes to mind for many. Apparently, the fiery cornerback and his former quiet quarterback haven’t been in contact since Sherman left the team. Frankly, that’s not surprising at all.

Wagoner’s article also included a few comments from Wilson about Sherman as well, although his were full of praise. Wilson called Sherman a “Hall of Fame corner” and acknowledged how much Sherman meant to Seattle. Wilson has never been one to criticize current of former teammates. He actually rarely says anything that’s surprising or headline worthy, so this response isn’t surprising either.

He and Sherman are almost polar opposites when it comes to how they present themselves to the media. But that just makes this matchup even more interesting.

Minnesota Vikings vs New England Patriots

Minnesota Vikings vs New England Patriots : This should be a good one. The 8-3 New England Patriots, fresh off a convincing victory over their division rivals, host the 6-4-1 Minnesota Vikings. While the Patriots have the better record, this game should be anything but a gimme for New England. The Vikings boast one of the most complete rosters in the league, making this poised to be a rough, tightly contested game. Still, it is the NFL, so anything and everything can happen. Without further ado, let’s take a dive into the Patriots vs Vikings bold predictions.

No position grouping has taken more of a beating than the New England Patriots running backs. Jeremy Hill, Sony Michel, and Rex Burkhead have all missed a significant time this season recovering from their various injuries. However, the unit is finally getting some help with the return of Rex Burkhead.

As mentioned earlier, Burkhead will probably be third in the running back order. However, Burkhead has two things going for him which should help him find the endzone. For one, he’s the Patriots most complete back. He’s not as good a runner as Michel or as good a pass catcher as James White, but he’s capable of making plays in both facets of the game. Because of this, he could see some goal line work so opposing defenses can’t key in on what the Patriots offense is trying to do.

Additionally, Burkhead is surprisingly gifted as a red zone runner. Despite his smaller frame, Burkhead was one of the more efficient red zone runners in the league last year. Red zone running is a serious flaw in the Patriots offense, and Burkhead could help fix it. Look for the now-healthy running back to make multiple trips to the end zone.

There may not be a more dangerous wide receiver duo than Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. So far, the duo has combined for an absurd 172 receptions for 1,928 yards and 14 touchdowns. When both receivers have been on the field, no team has been able to hold them to less than a combined 100 yards.

The New England Patriots will be the first to do that. Stephon Gilmore is skilled enough to match up against anybody, including the insanely talented Adam Thielen. Jason McCourty is a strong CB2 and should be able to slow Diggs with help from a safety. New England lives to take away an opponents best option, and Thielen and Diggs are easily the best weapons on the Vikings roster. If the Minnesota Vikings are to pull off the upset, they’ll have to do it with their secondary pieces.

Traditional box scores don’t reflect just how dominant Trey Flowers is. Despite having just 3.5 sacks on the season, Flowers is one of the most disruptive edge defenders in all of football. Pro Football Focus currently has Flowers ranked as the second-best edge defender in the league, and the fourth-year star is arguably the most important player on the Patriots defense.

Flowers is due for a big game, and he’ll have one on Sunday. Flowers is too disruptive for his sack total to stay so low, and he’ll start getting the sacks he should’ve had earlier in the year. The Vikings offensive line isn’t that great, so Flowers should be able to win his matchups all day long.

With Gilmore and McCourty holding down Thielen and Diggs, quarterback Kirk Cousins will be forced to hold the ball longer than he’d like. This is all Flowers will need to start racking up sacks by the wayside. The former fourth-round pick is one of the most underrated players in the league, and he’ll start getting his recognition against the Vikings.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Oakland Raiders

Kansas City Chiefs vs Oakland Raiders : The Kansas City Chiefs own the advantage in the recent rivalry with the Oakland Raiders, winning six of the last seven meetings straight up and going 5-2 against the spread along the way. But the Chiefs are favored by a big number for Sunday afternoon’s meeting at the Oakland Coliseum.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Oakland Raiders Live

NFL point spread: The Chiefs opened as 13-point favorites; the total was 56.5 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. (Line updates and matchup report)

NFL betting pick, via OddsShark computer: 37.5-12.8 Chiefs (NFL picks on every game)

Why the Chiefs can cover the spread

Kansas City is shooting to bounce back from that epic 54-51 loss to the Rams in Los Angeles in Week 11 and will return after having Week 12 off.

The Chiefs trailed L.A. 13-0 out of the gate, led 17-16, trailed 40-30 then led 51-47 with just under three minutes to go. But Kansas City gave up a Rams touchdown with just under two minutes left to fall behind then threw interceptions on its last two possessions.

Kansas City actually outgained Los Angeles 448-379 but gave up two Rams defensive touchdowns and lost the turnover battle 5-2.

The Chiefs have now outgained and outrushed four of their last five opponents. They’re also 4-2 SU and 5-0-1 ATS on the road this season.

At 9-2 overall, Kansas City leads New England by one game in the battle for the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs.

Why the Raiders can cover the spread

The Raiders snapped a five-game losing streak two weeks ago with a victory at Arizona but now look to bounce back after falling at Baltimore in Week 12, 34-17.

Oakland actually drove the opening possession of the game 81 yards to a touchdown and only trailed 20-17 into the fourth quarter. But the Raiders gave up a Ravens touchdown with 11 minutes left, and a subsequent Baltimore fumble return for another score created a somewhat misleading final tally.

Unfortunately for their financial backers, that late Ravens defensive touchdown cost the Raiders the cover as 13-point dogs.

The Oakland defense only really gave up 20 points; Baltimore also scored on a punt return. Two weeks ago, the Raiders outgained the Cardinals 325-282 and won time of possession by a 36/24 split in a 23-21 win.

At 2-9 overall, Oakland is trying to create some momentum it can carry forward into next season.

Smart betting pick

So far this NFL season, double-digit favorites are 14-3 SU and 10-6-1 ATS. However, that seems like a trend due for a correction. Also, the large spreads might be catching up to the Chiefs, who are only 1-2-1 ATS their last four times out.

The smart money here takes the points with the divisional home dog.

The total has gone under in four of the Chiefs’ last five games versus the Raiders.

The total has gone under in 13 of the Raiders’ last 18 games.

The Raiders are 1-14 SU in their last 15 games as an underdog.

Buffalo bills vs Miami Dolphins

Buffalo bills vs Miami Dolphins : The Miami Dolphins host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday in the 105th meeting between the two AFC East rivals. Once again, the game will feature the Bills in their white throwbacks with the red buffalo on the helmet against the Dolphins in their aqua throwbacks with the old-style off-center dolphin. It will be a great look on the field – which is also painted to look like an old-school Orange Bowl field.

Chicago Bears vs New York Giants

Chicago Bears vs New York Giants : As one of the most pleasant surprises in the NFL this season, the Chicago Bears are also making money, going 8-3 against the spread and 5-0 ATS their last five times out.

Chicago Bears vs New York Giants Live

Can Chicago make it six straight both straight up and for the cash against the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon in New Jersey?

NFL point spread: The Bears opened as four-point favorites; the total was 45 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. Line updates and matchup report.

NFL betting pick, via OddsShark computer: 29.3-16.9 Bears. NFL picks on every game.

The Bears just ran their winning streak to five in a row with a 23-16 victory at Detroit last Thursday.

Chicago spotted the Lions the first seven points of the game and trailed 13-9 through three quarters. But they took the lead with a touchdown early in the fourth, then won the game with an Eddie Jackson pick-six with six minutes left and a Kyle Fuller interception in the end zone with a minute to go.

Backup quarterback Chase Daniel hit on 27-for-37 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns, with zero turnovers, and the Bears defense won the game in the fourth quarter. Most importantly, Chicago covered the spread as a three-point road favorite.

The Bears are now 7-2 ATS this season as favorites. At 8-3 overall, Chicago owns the No. 3 spot in the NFC playoff standings.

New York won two games in a row into last week but then lost a tough one at Philadelphia 25-22.

The Giants actually drove the opening possession of the game 75 yards to a touchdown and led 19-3 in the second quarter. They later fell down in the fourth, tied the game with a field goal with six minutes to go but lost it on a Philly field goal with 20 seconds left.

The Giants outgained the Eagles 402-341. But the only turnover of the game, an Eli Manning interception just before halftime, cost New York a shot at a field goal and three points that might have made a difference.

Nonetheless, the Giants covered as 4.5-point dogs. New York has outgained four of its last seven opponents, going 4-2-1 ATS in the process. At 3-8 overall, the Giants are trying to build some momentum to carry into next season.

As of Thursday, it was still uncertain as to who would quarterback the Bears on Sunday, but it hasn’t seemed to have an effect on the line.

Also, Chicago is playing on a couple extra days off, which comes in handy this time of the year. And while the Bears are outrushing opponents this season by 35 yards per game, New York is getting outrushed by 34 yards per game.

The smart money here gives the points with Chicago.

The total has gone under in three of the Bears’ past four games versus the Giants.

The Bears are 4-1 ATS in their past five games on the road versus the Giants.

The Giants are 0-9-1 ATS in their past 10 games after an ATS win.

Cleveland Browns vs Houston Texan

Cleveland Browns vs Houston Texan : The Houston Texans are 11-6 straight up and 10-7 against the spread with Deshaun Watson starting at quarterback. The Cleveland Browns are 3-5 SU and 4-4 ATS with Baker Mayfield starting at quarterback, which isn’t bad considering where they came from.

Cleveland Browns vs Houston Texan Live

In an interesting quarterback matchup, Houston hosts Cleveland on Sunday afternoon.

NFL point spread: The Texans opened as 4.5-point favorites; the total was 45 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. Line updates and matchup report.

NFL betting pick, via OddsShark computer: 34.0-12.1 Texans. NFL picks on every game.

The Browns own their first winning streak since 2014 after beating the Cincinnati Bengals 35-20 on the road in Week 12. Cleveland drove its first four possessions of the game 78, 56, 96 and 59 yards to touchdowns to take a 28-0 lead and cruised from there for its first road victory since 2015.

On the day, the Browns got outgained by the Bengals 372-342, but those numbers don’t mean much considering about three-quarters of the yardage the Cleveland defense allowed came in garbage time.

Just prior to that, the Browns beat the Atlanta Falcons 28-16. So Cleveland is 2-1 both SU and ATS since canning head coach Hue Jackson. At 4-6-1 overall the Browns trail the Baltimore Ravens by just a game and a half in the battle for the second AFC wild-card spot.

The Texans just ran their winning streak to eight in a row with a 34-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Monday night. Houston potted the Titans the first 10 points of the game before using a 27-0 spurt spanning the halves to take control on its way toward the cover as a 3.5-point favorite.

On the night, the Texans outgained Tennessee 462-365 and outrushed the Titans 281-105.

Houston has outgained four of its past five opponents and outrushed each of its past five foes. It’s also 4-1 ATS over that span. At 8-3 overall, the Texans are tied with the New England Patriots for the No. 3 spot in the AFC playoff standings, although the Patriots own the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Houston beat Cleveland last season 33-17, but the Browns are a better team than they were that day. Also, Cleveland is 5-3 ATS this season as an underdog. The Texans may still win this game outright but smart money bets the Browns and the points.

The total has gone under in seven of the Browns’ past eight games against the Texans.

The total has gone under in 10 of the Texans’ past 13 games at home in December.

The Browns are 7-3 ATS in their past 10 games in the early afternoon.

Arizona Cardinals vs Green Bay Packers

Arizona Cardinals vs Green Bay Packers : The Green Bay Packers own one of the starkest home/road splits in the NFL this season. While they’re 0-6 straight up and 1-4-1 against the spread away from home, they’re 4-0-1 SU and 3-2 ATS at Lambeau Field.

Arizona Cardinals vs Green Bay Packers Live

Luckily for the Packers, they get the Arizona Cardinals on the Frozen Tundra on Sunday afternoon.

The Cardinals are difficult to make a case for at the moment with three straight losses, including a 45-10 defeat against the Chargers last week.

Arizona actually drove opening possession of the game 76 yards to a touchdown and led 10-0 after one quarter. But the Cards came up empty from there in a performance better left forgotten.

Two weeks ago, Arizona led Oakland 21-20 late into the fourth quarter but lost 23-21 on a field goal at the buzzer. Three weeks ago, the Cardinals gave the Chiefs a good game in Kansas City, losing 26-14 but covering as 16-point dogs. Just before that, Arizona beat San Francisco 18-15.

Despite last week’s washout, it appears the Cardinals may be making some progress in the latter stages of their first season under the new coaching regime with a rookie starting quarterback. At 2-9 overall, Arizona is playing for a brighter future.

The Packers are a tough case themselves at the moment, with just one win over their last five games after falling at Minnesota last week 24-17.

Green Bay drove its second possession of the game 68 yards to a touchdown and played the Vikings to a 14-14 tie into halftime. But the Packers gave up the first 10 points of the second half, got within one score with two minutes to go but couldn’t get the ball back.

The big play of the game came early in the second half, when in a tie game Green Bay went for it on a 4th-and-1 from its own 44-yard line. Unfortunately the Packers got stuffed, Minnesota immediately drove to a field goal and Green Bay could not respond.

Two weeks ago, the Packers led the Seahawks in Seattle nearly the entire game but lost 27-24. And just before that, they beat Miami at Lambeau 31-12, covering as 11-point favorites.

At 4-6-1 overall, Green Bay is in desperation mode if it wants to make the playoffs.

Double-digit favorites are 14-3 SU and 10-6-1 ATS so far this NFL season. However, the Packers probably shouldn’t be favored by double digits over anybody at the moment as they’re banged-up on offense and their defense is still iffy.

Green Bay may well still win this game outright, but the smarter money takes the points.

The total has gone over in 24 of the Packers’ last 34 games.

The total has gone over in five of the Cardinals’ last seven games.

The Cardinals are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games on the road in December.

Denver Broncos vs Cincinnati Bengals

Denver Broncos vs Cincinnati Bengals : The Bengals are kicking off the month of December with an inter-conference matchup with the Broncos today. This is the Bengals last chance at salvaging their once promising season as their margin for error becomes thinner and thinner. But the news they received this week should help them out.

Denver Broncos vs Cincinnati Bengals Live

A few notable players will be returning to the field from injury today. The biggest has to be A.J. Green, who missed the last three games with a toe injury. The Bengals have been 0-3 without him. He should be a very welcome addition to Jeff Driskel who will be making his first start at quarterback in the NFL.

Cincinnati will also be getting Dre Kirkpatrick and Nick Vigil back. Vigil has been out since being hurt in the Steelers game, and Kirkpatrick just missed last week’s game. The defense can use all the help it can get after getting dismantled by Baker Mayfield and the Browns last week for 28 first-half points.

The Broncos are fresh off two wins against playoff teams (the Steelers and Chargers). That doesn’t mean they aren’t without their faults. Undrafted rookie running back Phillip Lindsay is probably the best running back who isn’t consistently getting 15 touches per game. He was pretty much the biggest reason the Broncos pulled out the victory against the Steelers as he rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown on only 14 rushing attempts.

Who will keep their Wild Card hopes alive?

Baltimore Ravens vs Atlanta Falcons

Baltimore Ravens vs Atlanta Falcons : Ravens coach John Harbaugh said that he has not ruled out playing quarterback Joe Flacco in Sunday’s game against the Falcons, despite a number of reports stating that rookie Lamar Jackson would get his third straight start behind center.

Baltimore Ravens vs Atlanta Falcons Live

Flacco, the Ravens starting quarterback, injured his hip during a 23-16 loss to the Steelers on Nov. 4. He reportedly examined by a doctor on Monday in order to get clearance to practice this week. In Flacco’s absence, Jackson has started in back-to-back wins for the Ravens (6-5) over the Bengals and Raiders.

“We just need to see him practice, go through the whole practice, and evaluate how he’s moving, throwing and want to make sure he can protect himself and execute,” Harbaugh said of Flacco during a conference call with the media on Wednesday.

“Obviously it’s going to be played at a really high pace down there – very fast defense and excellent pass rushers. So, that would be our main concern to see that in practice – and if we get a chance to see that in practice. And if we get a chance to see that as the week goes on, we’ll have a better handle on that.”

If Flacco does manage to get through a practice this week and Harbaugh likes what he sees, it’s conceivable that that the 11-year veteran could get the starting nod against the Falcons (4-7) when the two teams square off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Or, as Harbaugh noted Wednesday, both two quarterbacks could end up playing or rotating during the game. The Ravens coach wouldn’t elaborate beyond that, however.

“That would be an option and I’ve been asked about that up here as well,” Harbaugh said. “I would say that’s one of the options on the table.”

The Ravens, who jumped out to a 3-1 start this season, are 4-5 in the nine games Flacco has started. He’s completed 232 of 370 passes (61.2 percent) for 2,465 yards and 12 touchdowns. Flacco has tossed six interceptions this season, too.

Jackson, a Heisman Trophy winner who the Ravens selected with the 32nd overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, has completed 34 of 56 passes for 415 yards and a pair of scores. He’s also thrown three interceptions in the games he’s started.

Jackson, however, is a dangerous runner. For the season, he’s averaging better than 5 yards a carry and has rushed 65 times for 329 yards and two touchdowns. Coupled with running back Gus Edwards, the Ravens have rushed for 507 total yards in their past two games vs. the Bengals and Raiders.

Falcons coach Dan Quinn said his team is preparing for both quarterbacks and noted the Ravens offense is very different depending on who’s under center.

“You do have to have two separate styles of play based on who’s in and that also goes for when they play them both in the game together,” Quinn said.
